Sharon needs a date and wants a stud on her arm. What’s a modern woman do? She hires one! Cray fills in as an escort due to a booking error at his brother’s business. He lucks out, for the woman he’s matched with is smart, funny and utterly fascinating. After one sexy night, they find a rare emotional and physical bond, promising a very romantic future.
Sharon snapped shut her small, multi-colored, jeweled clutch and took one last look at herself in the full-length mirror. The black, sequined dress she wore had cost a small fortune, but the price was well worth it. The garment made her feel sexy, instead of her normal utilitarian self. Her legs appeared long and shapely in the black shimmering stockings she’d also splurged on. And for once, she wasn’t having a bad hair day. She looked great, if she did say so herself. Now where was he?
She walked into the living room. A glance at the clock hanging on the back wall showed the hour was getting late. He was due in exactly two minutes. She hated when a guy waited until the last second to show up for a date. It made her feel like he wasn’t coming. Silly, since she’d never actually been stood up by anyone, but that small bit of insecurity still existed inside her.
If he didn’t show, she was sure what she’d do. A thousand excuses clogged her mind. She’d just have to pick one to tell everyone why she was attending the function dateless tonight when she’d said that she would bring her new beau. Or not go. She didn’t know which would be worse. She’d already promised to be there.
The doorbell chimed, and her stomach flipped -- relief mixed with nervousness. She had to be crazy to think that she could pull this off and fool people. Maybe if she didn’t answer she could pretend that she’d forgotten about the event. No. She shook her head. She was doing this.
With a last pat to her hair, she unlocked the door and pulled it open. Clad in an expensive-looking suit and tie, stood a tall man who appeared handsome enough to have stepped off the cover of some high-fashion men’s magazine. An expression that she couldn’t identify crossed his face as he scanned her from head to toe. When a small smile tugged at his mouth, his full lips drew her complete attention.
Wow. But then, she shouldn’t be surprised. Of course, he was studly. Just what she’d ordered. It had taken a full two weeks of her pay. She hoped he had a brain to go along with his looks.
“Sharon?” he asked in a husky voice.
